This morning changed so many things in our family. Not that anything really changed, but my perception of it did.Drew got THE call today. The call that determined his life's path. The call that told us what his near future holds for him, and possibly most of his life.
Drew enlisted in the Air Force some time ago but they haven't been able to assign him a career. He is a super smartie and can have any job he wants that doesn't require a degree first, as he is going in before college. They haven't had any of his top seven picks available. So they bumped his enlistment date to mid-October when all the careers open again.
But yesterday Drew's recruiter called. He had 7 openings in a career field that wasn't on Drew's list and Drew could get in there if he wants to. We thought about, discussed it and said prayers for Drew's choices. He delayed many hours, but decided to apply and leave it to God to choose. There really weren't that many slots to fill. It is a great career choice, and there will always be a need for it, and the pay isn't too shabby.
This morning the recruiter called and told Drew that he leaves on October 7th to become an Air Traffic Controller.
I sobbed. I don't know what came over me, but I just sobbed. And I'm about to cry just writing it. It isn't a hard thing to have him do that job, and him leaving isn't something new. As a matter of fact, over the last year I've been near pushing him out the door myself many times, so leaving shouldn't be an issue, lol.
But there you have it. My son is leaving in a little more than a month to be an Air Traffic controller. Just don't talk to me about it because I will cry.

That is WONDERFUL, Learning to be an ATC will give him so many opertunties when he decides to leave the military. Its a great job to have, yes I know it will be hard to let him go, but it will get easier notice I didnt say easy just a bit easier as time goes on.
Good for him! My dad started his career in the Air Force and was an air traffic controller for the rest of his life. High stress, but well worth it.
Who knows? He may just love it!
I'll send out a prayer for his Mommy though.
Wow! Congratulations to Drew! Can he really be old enough to go into the air force??? Time flies. It must be tough for Mommy.

I got tears in my eyes just reading your words. Congrats to him! Sounds like a fun job to me. I totally understand where you are coming from...just thinking about my oldest leaving the nest puts a lump in my throat.
I know it's hard. We're heading back this week from our time away and it's going to be weird not having last year's seniors in Princeton. I'm really going to miss Drew but look forward to hearing how he's doing in the Air Force.

I can imagine that this has to be really hard - but how cool is it to know that the decision was made with prayer and consultation with God!? If nothing else, that has to be a little comfort to you and the family. I think that being an Air Traffic Controller would be VERY interesting - challenging, and stinkin' cool!
WAY cool! This is a great opportunity...but I KNOW it pulls on your heart strings! Praying for your transition!
