I recently finished reading The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner. It is a fantastic read.
The setting is modern times and about a woman named Lauren who struggles with judging people. Her flaws come out as she takes on a job translating a diary of a woman named Mercy who was accused of being a witch during the Salem Witch trials. The story has the added depth of a mysterious and bitter woman who owns the diary.
There were twists and turns and several aspects to the story, all which added to the theme.
I enjoyed the diary and imagining the young woman living during those times of confusion and terror. I had never really thought about what someone must be going through watching their friends and neighbors being accused but unable to defend them for fear of the inevitable accusation being put on them.
The moral to the story is about judging people instead of loving people.
All in all, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend reading it. My mom enjoyed reading it, also. (we both cried, the sign of and truly well-written book)
The Shape of Mercy is a WaterBrook Press release and is available now on Amazon. You can learn more about Susan Meissner, who is from Minnesota originally, at her website, susanmeissner.com.
