How to Turn the Holidays into an Abomination

Sometimes I get so fed up with the commercialism of Christmas that I just want to quit celebrating it altogether. It isn't like celebrating the birth of Christ is a Biblical holiday, it isn't mandated by Scriptures. Getting rid of it would not affect true Christians' feelings about the birth of Christ. But it would save people billions of dollars, going into debt for something that won't last to the last payment, and heart ache.

I keep going on with Christmas, though, because it is important to so many people, including many in my family. Besides, stopping Christmas would just show my unsaved family that following Christ is giving up all fun and joy. So I carry on. (can you tell Christmas is not my favorite holiday?)

Christmas is so very much about "stuff" that it sickens me. I love the wonderful plays and the great, inspirational stories, and the clear miracles that God works at this time of year in people's lives and hearts, but things like what is now in the news sickens me.

Mostly it is sickening, but it is also kind of funny. I'm twisted, yes.
Planned Parenthood has decided to get in on all the billions of dollars that are spent this time of year and has started offering gift certificates. In these tough economic times people are putting health care on the back burner, you know. So giving them a gift certificate will help them to get those mammies grammed and those prostates checked out, and test for STDs, too. And if they want, they can even use it to get an abortion, they aren't limiting the services someone may need, you know.

What amuses me is the thought of someone actually BUYING this for someone on their list. "Hey, I thought you were a little promiscuous this year, so here, go get checked out, maybe buy some birth control."

You know, you can buy condoms online, no need for a gift certificate.
