Reading time

Sam and Trinity are at the age where reading is fun. They get silly jokes and recognize things that they can relate to in books. I enjoy the reading time when the books are amusing to me, too. And that is exactly what happened when Team Mom and Candlewick Press sent me two books by Leslie Patricelli.
I opened up the book "Baby Happy Baby Sad" to read to Sam and each open page shows a picture of a happy baby or a sad baby, one on each page. Like a happy baby with an ice cream cone and a sad baby with the ice cream on the floor. Sam was loving it, and he is recognizing the emotions and why the baby is happy or sad. It is really neat to see him grasping those concepts.

But then I opened to a page with a naked baby that said "Baby Happy" and I just lost it! LOL Sam is naked at all possible times he can get away with it! He is so happy to be free. It totally connected with our life and I loved it! "Baby Happy Baby Sad" is now my favorite book to read to the kids.

Trinity's new book is "Higher! Higher!" It is so colorful and fun to look at, we just love the pictures. But the book is also such an easy read with some subtle humor thrown in. There are There are less than 10 words in the entire book, which makes reading easy, and it encourages kids to learn words by sight. After a couple of reads Trinity can "read" it back to us.
The book is about a little girl getting pushed on the swing by her daddy. She keeps going higher, higher, until she is up in the sky and meets an alien. It is just so cute!
Leslie Patricelli is a very creative author, and I think she knows kids pretty well, judging by the books. I highly recommend these two books to anyone with toddlers and preschoolers, and I am keeping my eye out for more books by Leslie Patricelli.
