Scan this, baby! A review and giveaway

When your baby is sick the last thing you want to do is shove a thermometer where the sun don't shine torture them with a thermometer. My kids do not cooperate and I end up holding them down while their temps are being taken under their arms. It is just so invasive and uncomfortable when all they want is to be cuddled.

I am so happy that I can now just "scan" my children's forehead and get a temp reading from their temporal artery. It is a little higher than under the arm or oral, since it is more like a rectal temp, but actually more accurate as the body changes temps, it takes longer to show up rectally.

The Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer, though a mouthful, is so easy to use. First you remove the cap (very important), then set the scanner in the middle of the forehead, push the button and slide along the forehead to the hair line, then release the button and remove the scanner to read the temp.

I am so thrilled and honored to be able to not only get to use one of these thermometers, but I am honored to be able to give one away to my readers!

Exergen Temporal Scanner is a great tool for parents, and if you would like to be entered to win one you need to go visit the sponsor and leave a comment about something you found out about using this thermometer.

US residents only, sorry! Giveaway ends April 14, 2009, my 20th wedding anniversary.

You can purchase this at Walmart, Sam's Club, and several other places.
Thank you to Exergen Temporal Scanner and Family Review Network for this great review and giveaway opportunity!

I kinda found the site hard to read, maybe its because I have a nasty cold and I am tired of being pregnant.. so I copied and pasted what I did read.
it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses

Yet another product that I could really use with a new baby in the house. I found that the thermometer determines temperature by accurately measuring the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling (warming) caused by heat loss (gain) to the environment.

It all sounds so very technical. I guess I just need to know that it works and works well, not how or why it works.

I found out that the TemporalScanner Thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared to rectal thermometers and temperature sensors inserted in the heart during course of patient treatment and accepted for use in major hospitals.

I found that the TemporalScanner is very accurate and is amazing on how it reads. This would be a great thermometer to get because I am a new grandma and what an easy way to check my grandsons temperature. I would love it.

I learned that it uses a patented Arterial Heat Balance system that measures temperatures and mathematically replaces the small temperature loss from cooling at the skin to display an accurate temperature.

I found out that it takes 1,000 readings per second and selects the most accurate. I could definitely use this!

i learned that ear thermometers are not accurate because it is hard to check the same spot twice whereas the temporal thermometer is swiped across the same spot.

The temporal artery thermometer scans the forehead area for the temporal artery and it's almost impossible to miss the artery during a scan.

Exergen TemporalScanners are now used by medical professionals approximately 500,000,000 times per year, and by consumers approximately 100,000,000 times per year. Both continue to grow rapidly.

How cool, it lloks like what my son's ped uses!

Wow, I didn't even know your forehead had something called a temporal artery. I also didn't know that it takes the rectal time to register the body temp as it takes time to heat up there. Compared to the forehead artery. I could have used this when my chidren recently all became sick. (all six) The ear thermometer woke them up to take the temp. This could be used without waking a sick child. Wonderful!

this would be so great to use with my 7, soon to be 8, kids! I found out that it's the most accurate way to take someone's temperature :)

This would be great when my passel of 5 are all sick! Here is something I learned from their site:
Measure only the side of the head that is exposed. Any covering, hair, hat, etc. will prevent the heat from dissipating, and would cause the reading to be falsely high. This also applies if one side of the head is into a pillow.

I found out that it's more accurate than ear temperature. I'd LOVE to win this! It's so hard to take my autistic son's temp. This would be a whole lot easier. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I discovered that the temporal arterial scanner is so acute because the blood flow through the temporal artery is the same temperature that goes through the heart. As a medical professional myself, who has used the hospital version of this product, am very happy that it is being made available to the public.

When my daughter was in the hospital the nurse used this and it was so nice not to have to wake the baby.
I found out the way it works.
The TemporalScanner Thermometer is designed to measure the temperature of the skin surface over the temporal artery, a major artery of the head.
Pretty cool!

I found out that the scanner not only scans the temporal artery for a temp but also reads the ambient temp to provide a more accurate reading!

The Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer is the answer to my prayers. My mother could never figure out my temperature on the thermometer when I was younger. Then when I took my own temp, I realized that it was very hard to read. I bought an electronic one, but that proved to be inaccurate. I really like the sound of this thermometer because not only does it take the temperature from the forehead, it takes 1000 readings a second and then selects the right one.

Firt I must say, "I need this." I thought that back at the begining of March when a local hospital used it on my daughter. At that time, I thought wouldn't that be great for home use. Wow, I did not know they were sold in stores to us every-day consumers. I'm sure that my baby would love this too(since it is non-invasive), along with my 5 and 2 year old (who acts like I am torchering him with an under-arm temp reading!
One thing I learned from the website: That it takes two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature!
