Our 7 Qtpies

February 18, 2009

Whoa!

Apparently you can have strep throat and not have a sore throat!
That is what has been going on here for weeks on end. Some people have had a sore throat off and on, but mostly it has been nausea and bad stomach pains, headaches, etc. We never suspected!
The entire family is on antibiotics now, and hopefully we will be good as new by the weekend.

Cody and Hope-Anne are being tested for some respiratory problems and going to go to an allergist to see if we can find out if there is a problem with the school. They both get sick in certain rooms in the school, and I want to be sure that it isn't going to cause asthma, or other major problems.

The school is having a mold test done today, but who knows how that will turn out. We have a report that shows there is mold on the walls that is visible, but the school blows that off as EVERYONE has mold, that isn't a big deal.

3 people think my kids are qtpies:

Your doctor may not have suggested this, but once everybody has been on the antibiotics for about 3 days, replace all the toothbrushes (and maybe the tubes of toothpaste too) so they are not a source of reinfection with the strep after the antibiotic treatment is over.

My kids have both had strep with no throat pain twice in the last year. I was just as shocked as you were to discover that it was even possible.

I agree with the toothbrush changing idea. That's what we do too.

My girl and 3 of her friends just had strep last week. It's not fun!! So far, no one else in the family has come down with it. Make sure you finish your antibiotics. The dr also suggested after 5 days on the meds, to buy new toothbrushes and throw the old ones out so you don't get re-infected.
Ick with the mold!!! Definitely could be causing some problems.
