Our 7 Qtpies

December 31, 2010

Guess what I got for a late Christmas present?

Jannessa sent me a text message with a picture of a big blue plus sign! I'm going to be a grandma in the fall!
So, my little grand-dog, Chloe, is going to get back seat.

December 25, 2010

Whoa! That's not good! haha

I was cooking lunch today and Trinity touched the crockpot and asked why it was hot. So I explained it was cooking the ham for supper. Then she asked why it had a whole in the top. About that time Sam walks in the room and I answer her "I melted the cap."
Sam became very upset. "You melted the cap? You melted the cap? Why you melted the cap? "
I tried explaining that it was just an accident.
He settled down and then asked me why we don't have a kitty anymore.
"Sam, we have a cat, we have Lexx."
"We have Lexx? Lexx not hurt?"
What??? OHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Sam, I melted the CAP, the LID on the crockpot NOT the CAT!"

Bwahaha!

A little funny to bring some cheer!

AN OPEN LETTER TO MR. JAMES THATCHER BRAND MANAGER AT PROCTER & GAMBLE.

Dear Mr. Thatcher,

I have been a loyal user of your Always maxi pads for
over 20 years, and I appreciate many of their
features. Why, without the LeakGuard Core ™ or
Dri-Weave(tm) absorbency, I’d probably never go
horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I’d certainly
steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight,
white shorts. But my favorite feature has to be your
revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only
company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that
maxi pads be aerodynamic.

I can’t tell you how safe and secure I feel each month
knowing there’s a little F-16 in my pants. Have you
ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? Ever
suffered from “the curse”? I’m guessing you haven’t.
Well, my “time of the month” is starting right now. As
I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently
surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now,
my body will adjust and I’ll be transformed into what
my husband likes to call “an inbred hillbilly with
knife skills.” Isn’t the human body amazing?
As brand manager in the feminine-hygiene division,
you’ve no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what
exactly happens during your customers’ monthly visits
from Aunt Flo.

Therefore, you must know about the bloating,
puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our
intense mood swings, crying jags, and out-of-control
behavior. You surely realize it’s a tough time for
most women. In fact, only last week, my friend
Jennifer fought the violent urge to shove her
boyfriend’s testicles into a George Foreman Grill just
because he told her he thought Grey’s Anatomy was
written by drunken chimps. Crazy!
The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that
America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in
capri pants.

Which brings me to the reason for my letter. Last
month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I
wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus,
I opened an Always maxi pad, and there, printed on the
adhesive backing, were these words: “Have a Happy
Period.”

Are you kidding me? What I mean is, does
any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really
think happiness – actual smiling, laughing
happiness-is possible during a menstrual period? Did
anything mentioned above sound the least bit
pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you’re
some kind of sick S&M freak girl, there will never be
anything “happy” about a day in which you have to jack
yourself up on Motrin and Kahlúa and lock yourself in
your house just so you don’t march down to the local
Walgreens armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy
plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man. If you
just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad,
wouldn’t it make more sense to say something that’s
actually pertinent, like “Put Down the Hammer” or
“Vehicular Manslaughter Is Wrong”? Or are you just
picking on us?

Sir, please inform your accounting department that,
effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in
monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad
business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss
your Flexi-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your
brand of condescending BS.
And that’s a promise I will keep – Always.

Best Regards,
Wendi Aarons

Team Real Tree's Viotory

We inadvertantly ended up with a feud in our house. It didn't start out that way, but it has become the norm every year at Christmas time. Should we get a real tree or put up our 18 year old fake tree?
Team Real Tree obviously wants to go hunt through the cold freakin' snow and cut down a big, stinky, needle-shedding and probably prickly as can be tree that will drip sap on my wood floors that will never come off.
Team Fake Tree wants to skip the freakin' cold, the outdoors, the tree smell, the stupid sap that won't come off the wood floor in 4 years, and sweeping up pine needles for 3 months, and put up the dusty fake tree that is FREE!

This year I let Team Real Tree win. It was so important to their leader, and I wanted to submit to him. I also want the kids to have memories of happy things in their childhood. So, not only did I cave in, I also WENT WITH THEM this year.

Found the perfect looking tree, but mom requires that it not be pokey because pokey ones fall down twice a day and HURT to put back up. So they are checking it out and it is soft, a great height, and filled out nicely.

Then comes the sawing of the tree. Donnie does that. And he wisely wears the warm clothing needed for laying on the ground sawing away while everyone else hangs around and talks.

And then there is Cody, who currently refuses to wear a coat. I mean, gees, mom, we only live in Minnesota, it isn't like we live in Canada or something.

"Who you takin' pics of?"

The little ones trudged around through the snow banks, while I sat in the van taking pictures through the window.

None of the kids were bothered by the cold that sent me back to the van.

This is one of the first years in a LONG time, if ever, that Donnie took part in decorating the tree. He likes to come in at the last minute and put the star on the top. That's it. The part everyone wants.

Even the big kids helped decorate this year. Which was fun, since our decorations disappeared. Gone. I stole that garland from a box my mom left here. I also found about 10 ornaments from our Christmas banquet table from last year, so we have 10 ornaments, and 2 boxes of candy canes, along with the lights that normally go outside on our light pole.

But the tree looks nice and that is all that matters!

As my daughter was dusting in my living room the other day the smell of the Pledge reminded me of growing up. Saturday cleaning days, often times I had to would get to do the dusting. I actually enjoyed dusting! I like the lemon fresh scent. Memories!

Jingle bells!

Ok, well, we aren't all that jingly over here, but Christmas is coming anyway.

Christmas can be such a depressing and hopeless time of year for people. I know it really stinks when you are beyond broke, and add to that this economy and so many, many people out of work.

I am not depressed, I just don't get all that excited about Christmas. It is just all so....... unnecessary. Jesus doesn't instruct us to remember his birthday (which didn't happen in December anyway) and He certainly wouldn't want it to be about THINGS. So it kind of turns me off a bit. I love giving presents to people, don't get me wrong, I just hate what it has all become about. Buy, buy, buy. Spend, spend, spend. Decorate, spend, buy, eat. Just so much of that and so little of Christ.

So, I really just don't pay too much attention to it. I buy the gifts we need to buy (this year I have WON a ton of my gift list!), and enjoy the important parts: spending time with family and giving to people who need. (because you need to take care of their needs so they can know how much you care) Jesus wants us to care for the poor and broken.

All that aside...........

We have a long-standing Christmas feud in our house. Team Real Tree against Team Fake Tree. Team Real Tree are the dreamers who love Christmas. Team Fake Tree are the ones who see wasted money and pine needles to clean up. This year I bowed my wishes to make my dreamers happy. Memories are worth more than the money, right? So Team Real Tree won this year. I'll have to post pics, I even went along to get the tree this year. And I never do that!

Then we went to decorate. Where are the decorations? Seriously, where are they? No idea where they are. We have a closet for them, but they aren't there. No lights, no ornaments, no STOCKINGS. Our tree has some stuff I stole from my mom's Christmas stuff, a garland, our outdoor lights, and candy canes! But it is still pretty.

My manger and nativity set did get put away correctly so that is set up. I worried about the kids breaking it because it is the only thing I have from my grandma. But Donnie threatened them with their lives and they only point, never touch. Sam says that Joseph is God, and there is just no convincing him otherwise. You can confuse him a little and he will call Jesus God and Joseph Jesus, but he won't give up that Joseph is Joseph. Cracks us up!

Kaytlin is home from college for a month. Not that she is ever HOME, but she sleeps here. Hopefully we'll find time to do some wedding planning and maybe order wedding invitations now that we have a place and date for both the wedding and reception. The cake is being planned, but will be a HUGE challenge to me. Chocolate sides. Chocolate hates me.

Drew won't be home, but he will be around New Years, and plans to be at the grand opening of our new church campus!

That's what's up here! I'll sign off with a little conversation I had with Trinity the other day when she overheard me say something about being fat.

Trinity "Mom, you are NOT fat!"
Me "I'm not?"
Trinity "No, you are just thick."

Hmm, that IS a little better sounding! lol

Mend Mark Bracelet Giveaway! (CLOSED)

The winner is #23 Amanda H!

Mend Mark bracelets are a neat way to share your faith with people! They are simply a rubber bracelet that has a round circle on the top and bottom of your wrist. One says "Remember" and the other says "Love." The circles represent the scars Jesus bears because of His great love for us!
When people see your bracelet and ask you what it means, you get to share your faith and the love of Jesus with others. I think that is a great way to share God's love in a non-judgemental way.

The Mend Mark is a mission, a movement, an entire revolution. It is a bracelet meant to remind its wearers of Christ’s love and sacrifice, and its message is the passion of its creator, Hunter Harrison. His mission is to remind believers to remember Christ's love in life and death, but also inspire the wearers to a life of service.

Harrison strives to bring people together around the simplicity and power of love as lived by Jesus. But this is no example of passive love. The Mend Mark calls individuals in all walks of life to love with a profound sincerity and commitment great enough to change a neighborhood, a community, a world.

Harrison leads this call to love and sacrifice by example and joins hands with each Mend Mark bracelet purchaser to take the first step in global change. A portion of each bracelet sold goes to support Living Water International, an organization combating the clean water crisis victimizing over one billion people worldwide. Each $5,000 given will result in one well drilled, providing a community with clean water.

I get the privilege of giving away one of these faith-based bracelets to one lucky reader!

Mailbox Monday!

Welcome to Mailbox Monday!! A blog hop to boost your subscriber count!
Mailbox Monday is a great place to get new email subscribers to your blog! I am coming back to blogging after a long, healing hiatus, and would love to boost my stats!

Welcome to Our Seven Qtpies. I started this blog while pregnant with my 7th child, but it didn't stop there. I seem to collect children, and as they grow and marry, I keep adding! So, currently, I have my 7, a "fake son" who came to spend the night but hasn't left in the last 2 years, a daughter in law and soon to be son in law! (we are looking at adopting some little guys, but we'll see where that goes)

I like to blog about our crazy life with a large family. There is always something to laugh at here, and quite often gross things happen that I have to clean up. I've learned to deal. They DO grow up and leave, so I can face it for a time. Feel free to read and laugh at me, and then be thankful YOU don't have someone using poop for play doh and decorating your stairs with their pretty poop figures. True story.

I also like to blog reviews and giveaways, and those are starting up again this week!

Let me know you signed up for my emails and I will stop over and do the same for you!

The Mend Mark

I got a little email announcement about a bracelet and the company that makes it. It is called the Mend Mark. In it's simplicity it is a rubber bracelet, brown even, with two large dots. The dots go on the top and bottom of your wrists. One says Love and one says Remember. The are simple, but different enough that someone will have to ask what it means. Then you get to share.... Those dots are representative of the scars Jesus bears from being hung on the cross because of His great love for us, and we wear it to remember what His love prompted him to do for us.

I love this bracelets simple, but profound, design. I would ask someone what the circles stand for. I am looking forward to purchasing several of these so that our family will all be wearing them.

I will be receiving a sample for my views on this product. However, these are my honest opinions, I was not paid for my opinions.

Weirdness!

I've been very content with not having more kids. My kids are growing up and moving out and will be starting to have their own families in a year or so. It's kind of nice not having diapers or babies, or getting up at night, diaper bags and stuff like that. I still need a sitter for the younger two, but I CAN leave them, unlike a nursing baby.

I have freedom.

So lately I've been kind of wanting a baby. But don't really. But oh, how I do! No, I don't.

Sam came up to me the other day and said I had a baby in my tummy. No, I don't. He never really paid attention when I was pregnant with Aksel, and he hasn't mentioned it in the two months since Aksel died. But now he put his head to my tummy and said he could hear the baby in my tummy. Weird, huh? Am I pregnant? lol I don't think so. Guess we'll see.

But anyway, I've been looking at some adoption sites lately. I've just been drawn to them. Especially Down's syndrome babies from over seas. I showed a couple to Donnie and he even looked at the site and we were even both drawn to a couple of the same kids. But the price kind of turned us both away. We weren't seriously looking yet, and haven't even talked about adopting for real.

I then looked at local adoption, and found a place that pays all the fees! But none of the kids drew me in. So I just dropped it.

Then last night when I was putting the littles down to bed we read a book that must have been sent by my mom because I've never seen it. (she sends boxes of books to Trinity to read) Trinity handed me the book and I started reading it, having no idea what it was about, but it had a little girl and a ladybug on the cover. It was about little kids in China going to an orphanage to wait for a new mommy and daddy.

Hope-Anne says "Hmmm, ironic, isn't it?" Yes, it is. "You know, just today I prayed about you adopting, and that God would give a sign, and here it is."

Weird, huh?

Not that I am looking into it just yet, but maybe some day. Right now we are busy helping with a church planting in our town and committed to a year of service. That is our baby right now.

Cha Cha Changes!

I have a new "webmaster" who is a 9th grader, a friend of Cody's. He played a little trick on me one day, pretending to put a virus on my computer to scare me. Ticked me off. The little smarty thinks he's funny, huh? Well, I don't get how that was funny, but I do get that he can write html.
So I hired the guy to come and tweek my blog for me for some supper. He put the little links down under my posts so you can easily tweet, blog or facebook my posts and giveaways. I know, blogger actually has an easy link thing, but my blog is "special" and doesn't play nicely because it is a custom design. It took quite a bit of trial and error, but he got it!

And then I got him to make a scrolling marquis of my blog buttons on my side bar. That took a lot longer because he didn't know exactly what I wanted, but we did it! My blog was a mile long with all the great holiday giveaway buttons and giveaway blog buttons that I've collected. This is such a relief to me!

We agreed to me cooking for him, but he worked so hard I have him a little money, too. You rock, Austin!

Oh, that Sam!

Sam is growing up so fast! I can't believe he is actually 4 already. My baby is 4 years old! Breaks my heart to not have a baby in the house and to have my older kids growing up, moving out, getting careers, getting engaged and married. Hopefully grand babies will be on the near horizon to help out the lack of baby in the house!

Despite growing up, Sam is still doing and saying funny things to amuse us all the time. He has become quite the video game addict. Following in his big brothers' footsteps quite nicely. He even is able to play very, very well. So amazing are his skills that one day Devon and Brian (our fake son) had come in the room and saw him playing and stopped to watch him. He was moving the Wii controller and playing and Devon was just blown away! "Look at him play! He is awesome, Mom! Brian look at that! I would have gotten hurt by now!" And Brian was all in awe, too. "Wow, how did he do that?"
Well, turns out he wasn't playing at all, it was on a screen that shows you how to get through some part or something, lol, basically a video of someone playing a perfect game. We got a good laugh out of that one.

I don't really play much of the games on the Wii, so I don't know how to work very many of them. I refuse to help the kids when they get "stuck" because I don't know what I'm doing and they yell at me that I am doing it wrong, so if they know more than me, why ask me to help them? lol I just refuse. So Sam has finally gotten that, apparently, and quit asking me. The other day Sam got stuck on something, so he went to the basement door and opened it and I looked over to see what on earth he was doing. He yelled down the stairs "Cody!" I had to break his heart that Cody was in school. So he stomped off to the stairs and started to yell for Devon. So I broke his heart that Devon, too, was in school. So he says "Well, where's Drew?" Oh, honey, Drew doesn't live here anymore! Poor guy! He was ticked at his brothers for not being there for all his needs! They had all 3 been here for days over Thanksgiving weekend helping him play day after day. He liked that.

The other night I was reading to Sam and Trinity and Hope was hanging around listening. It was a book about balls and it talked about how they were round, except one kind, the football. So I asked Sam if he could find the football and he said no. What? Really?
"Sam, can you find a football?" and I circled a bunch of balls on a page.
Sam said "No, I can't find it."
"Sam, you can find one, can't you? Find a football."
So, Sam puts his finger right on the picture of the football and says "I can't find that."
We cracked up!
Donnie explained to us that when Sam hears "find" something, he relates it to real life, like go find the remote. If we meant in the book we should have said can you POINT to the football. Ok, then, lol, literal much?

Yesterday Sam came over to me wearing shorts, yes shorts in the winter in Minnesota, and said "Warm me up, Mommy Pederson." Really? lol My last name? Where did that come from, and do you have some other mom that you would need to do that? LOL

This is a MUST-HAVE for me! I live in Minnesota and let me tell you, it is COLD even if it is 70 in the house. The lack of moisture makes everything feel colder. But if my feet are warm, then I am warm. So, I think this would be amazing, and would help me enter and blog about many more giveaways!
Go enter to win this for your favorite blogger! OK, enter it for yourself, but thank me for the win, haha.
